What is EPZ?

The full form of EPZ is export processing zone. Currently Bangladesh has eight EPZ (export processing zone). Official authority of EPZ is BEPZA- Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority. This is the most important part of our economic growth by exporting garments, leather, leather goods, Mobile Parts, Automobile Parts, Golf Shaft etc, all over the world by those EPZ. Let check all of those EPZ in Bangladesh. The first EPZ was Chittagong export Processing Zone established in 1983 following an Act of Parliament approved in 1980 by the Government of Bangladesh.

  1. Adamjee Export Processing Zone

Adamjee Export Processing Zone also known as Narayanganj EPZ is a special economic zone for producing export oriented products located in the industrial city of Siddhirganj, Bangladesh. Established in 2006, it has 245 acres of land with 229 industrial establishments. It is the 6th-largest especial economic zone in Bangladesh

Location

Admjee EPZ located in Adamjinagar, Siddhirganj is15 km from capital city Dhaka. It is 27 km from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and 255 KM from the Port of Chittagong

Facility and utility service

It is a completely duty-free zone for production and an export-oriented special economic zone. Adamjee Export processing zone have Water Supply: Treated water through Treatment Plant. Gas Supply from Titas Gas Transmission & Distribution Company Ltd. Tariff Power Supply: Own Sub-station. 11 kV.

Investment and export

As of December 2016, total investment in Adamjee EPZ was $397 million and total export value is $2,251,190,000.

Also known as Chittagong EPZ, is the first and one of the eight export processing zones in Bangladesh located at South Halishahar in Chittagong. In 2010, CEPZ was ranked third in the best cost-competitiveness category and fourth as the best economic potential in the global ranking in a survey among the world’s 700 economic zones carried out by FDi magazine

The economy of Bangladesh is largely dependent on agriculture to feed the huge amount of population. However, the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector has emerged as the biggest earner of foreign currency. In 1972, the World Bank approximated the gross domestic product (GDP) of Bangladesh at USD 6.29 billion, in 2014, the GDP stood at USD 173.82 billion, growing by almost 27 times in a matter of four decades. Bangladesh’s exports industry alone comprised USD 31.2 billion in financial year 2014-15, 81.69% of which was made up by ready-made garments. On its own, the knitwear sector encompasses 39.83% of total exports—a staggering USD 12.43 billion. The RMG sector has experienced an exponential growth since the 1980s. The sector contributes significantly to the GDP. It also provides employment to around 4.2 million Bangladeshis, mainly women from low income families. According to Bangladesh export processing zone authority (BEPZA) more than 64% of female worker are taking a part to production.
